How Many Colonic Sessions Are Necessary?
The first step would be to experience your first colonic before deciding how many colonics to complete; an initial colonic session complete with our consultation at our health practice is $125.00 with subsequent individual colonic sessions at $95.00 each. Before committing to more than one colonic session you will want to make sure that you are comfortable with the colonic instrumentation used by the practice serving you as well as the energy and environment of the practice. Visit the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy (I-ACT) website for a Certified Colon Hydrotherapist in your area as well as the certification and experience level of a therapist at www.i-act.org.
Health is not an event, it is a daily process; our current health status is the culmination of our health habits over time meaning that we do not change our health status overnight. Therefore, we recommend the 10-week protocol suggested by I-ACT consisting of 12 colonics (two colonics the first and second week (4) and one colonic a week for the next eight weeks (12). The health investment for the recommended 10-week protocol consisting of 12 colonics is $960.00 (80.00 per session) pre-paid. We also offer shorter colonic session packages of 4 colonic sessions for an investment of $360.00 ($90.00 per session) pre-paid and 6 colonic sessions for an investment of $510.00 ($85.00 per session) pre-paid.
Of course, the number of colon hydrotherapy sessions desired will depend on the individual. Just as some people exercise to tone and tighten their outer body, some people follow an ongoing cleansing, toning and rebuilding regime for their inner body. Colon hydrotherapy can be used as part of any regular health maintenance program.
NOTE: Pre-paid colonic sessions are non-refundable at the discounted rate and void after six months unless expressly purchased with the intent of using one a month for the year.

The above insurance codes are provided to our office for the benefit of our clients by the manufacturer of our FDA Registered, Class II Medical Equipment (requiring a physician prescription) to precipitate reimbursement for their personal colonic hygiene. Always consult with your medical physician prior to making significant changes to your health routine and incorporating new health practices. We also encourage our clients to check not only with their insurance companies but with their employers regarding flex-spending account policies for reimbursement of colon hydrotherapy when prescribed by a physician.
Upon obtaining a prescription for colon irrigation “As needed” or "As necessary to correct bowel response" it is our clients responsibility to submit insurance claim forms with our invoice/statement (identifying that the colonic irrigation procedure was performed at our office as directed by the order of your physician) and your original physician prescription attached for reimbursement.
Insurance codes should never be written on an invoice from the ATHANOR HYDROTHERAPY CENTER as we are not legally authorized to use insurance codes on our invoices nor do we issue our invoices with insurance codes typed or written on them for any reason.
Additionally, it is helpful for your physician if you contact your health insurance company to clarify which CPT code or codes they accept for colonic irrigation. Other CPT codes may be available from your health insurance company for medical procedures such as a colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, etc. wherein a colonic prior to the procedure is deemed necessary.

How Sanitary is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Today, there is no question that infectious diseases are issues important to all of us. Our office shares your concern and maintains the most complete comprehensive infection control program that you could find in any colon hydrotherapy facility. To further protect your health we use individually packaged, sterile, disposable rectal nozzles for safety and sanitation avoiding contamination to the client from a previous colonic session. We always take the utmost strictest steps in protecting our clients’ safety and this is done at NO EXTRA COST to you, our client.
Our health practice offers Washingtonians the sophisticated Angel of Water® colonic instrumentation, a state-of-the-art medical device registered with the FDA; making this health practice both pleasant and sanitary. The Angel of Water® CM-1 and the Angel of Water® Sterile, Disposable Rectal Nozzles are manufactured in strict compliance with the good manufacturing practices and standards required by the FDA as put forth in the Code of Federal Regulations.
Our instrumentation has been plumbed to meet all local ordinances and all excreted waste material is evacuated into the county sewer system in the same manner as a bathroom commode. The fiberglass colonic tables are disinfected between clients using hospital grade sterilization and disinfecting solutions required by the manufacturer under FDA guidelines. After disinfecting the colonic table we use a natural environmentally friendly microbe cleaner to remove any chemical residue this practice is particularly important for clients that are chemically sensitive.
What Will I Experience During a Colon Hydrotherapy Session?
Individuals choosing to incorporate colon hydrotherapy as a part of their health regime maintain their personal safety, privacy and dignity during the procedure. At the beginning of a colonic session, we recommend that the client weigh before and again after their colonic. We instruct the client to disrobe from the waist down once the colonic hygienst leaves the room and ask that the client drape themselves to ensure their personal modesty. Your personal privacy and dignity are always maintained. After disrobing the client lies on the colonic table where extending from the hydrotherapy equipment is a small lubricated disposable rectal nozzle (no larger in circumference than a pencil through which warm purified water gently passes into the colon softening waste material for evacuation) once the client positions themselves onto the rectal nozzle (extending only one to one-half inches in the rectum), they are instructed to ring for the colonic hygienist to begin the session. The client generally experiences a gentle and thorough internal cleansing in a relaxed, comfortable and professional environment. On occasion some clients can experience some cramping or nausea during the colonic session. Therefore, we strongly recommend not eating solid food two to three hours prior to a colonic session.
Our health practice uses an open colonic system that allows waste to be discretely transported into the public sewer system without unpleasant odor in the same manner in which the commode in your very own bathroom operates. Clients may release waste material upon having the urge to evacuate at anytime during a session. A natural rhythm of the colon hydrating and softening waste material occurs as a gentle, continuous flow of purified, warm water enters the rectum and waste material is evacuated. During the session clients may relax, read, meditate, talk on their cell phone (not recommended) or simply watch as excreted waste material passes through a clear lighted viewing tube while listening to soothing music or an educational health or motivational CD.
Clients usually will feel exhilarated after a thorough cleansing; however, some clients will experience fatigue after their colonic session in which case we recommend additional fluid (electrolyte) intake and rest. Most clients can resume normal activities to include returning to work. Individuals choosing to use cleansing supplements and/or participating in a liver or kidney cleanse/gallbladder flush may experience cleansing reactions known as detoxification symptoms; individuals participating with these types of herbal cleanses find that cleansing reactions are not as debilitating to regular activities when they are supportive of their cleanse with a series of colonics.
What Can I Eat and Drink After A Colonic Session?
We recommend soups directly after a colonic session and for individuals with difficult digestive issues you may want to consider puréed foods for several days to allow the digestive system to rest. Avoid heavy meat consumption and raw vegetables for several days although lightly steamed vegetables are fine as well as raw fruits. We strongly recommend the replacement of friendly mircoflora (probiotics) and minerals (electrolytes) before leaving our office. Probiotics and electrolytes should be considered as a daily health practice as the majority of individuals do not have enough friendly mircoflora (probiotics) and are mineral (electrolytes) deficient after many years of the Standard American Diet.
Here are just a few electrolyte replacement recommendations:

Each of us is an individual experiment of one; what works for one person doesn’t work for another person. The question of “what to eat” is most often our biggest dilemma! The basic philosophy we offer our clients is that health is an integrated affair. We need oxygen to oxygenate our bodies, we need water to hydrate our body, we need whole foods to nourish our body, sleep to regenerate our body and most importantly our body needs to eliminate waste through healthy bowel function. Dietary habits are an individual lifestyle choice. Our role is to educate and inform our clients during their health journey in order for them to achieve the best results from their investment in colon hydrotherapy.
It is our experience that a probiotic diet is the most complimentary diet in conjunction with colon hydrotherapy (visit: www.bodyecology.com) due to the naturally detoxifying affects that nature’s internal alchemists (friendly mircoflora) provide our clients that choose to incorporate cultured vegetables and kefir into their diets. Additionally, adequate amounts of water (visit: www.watercure.com) are needed to cleanse our cellular environment and hydrate our body’s internal eco-system balance.
We also promote the Weston A. Price Foundation (visit: www.westonaprice.org) to our clients for the wealth of knowledge that their foundation offers in food, farming and the healing arts to empower individuals with information upon which to make more informed decisions regarding their personal self-care.
Will Colonics Interface Well With Other Healing Modalities?
Colonic hygiene is considered complementary to the recommendations and/or programs of your health care/medical professional. Colon hydrotherapy is supportive of nutritional and dietary supplementation as well as homeopathic remedies and may enhance the effectiveness of other health practices. Our clients have reported that colon hydrotherapy has been very complimentary with chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, reflexology, acupuncture/acupressure and a variety of nutritional and supplement cleansing protocols.
Are There Suggestions to Ensure A Wonderful Colonic Experience?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment as we find that clients can relax when they are not rushed. Wear whatever is most comfortable. Openly discuss your likes, dislikes or concerns with your colonic hygienist. It is recommended that you keep your valuables with you at all times as many times clients will want to remove jewelry. You may request a male or female colonic hygienist. However, availability of a particular colonic hygienist cannot be guaranteed. Please avoid the use of cellular phones.
When Would Colon Hydrotherapy Not Be Recommended?
There are certain contraindications for colon hydrotherapy, including ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease (in the acute inflammatory state), severe hemorrhoids, and tumors of the large intestine or rectum. Individuals in a weakened health status should avoid colon hydrotherapy without direct medical supervision.
WARNING: If you’ve had a physician or surgeon diagnose you with any intestinal conditions, or you have been on any medication, which may weaken the intestinal tract, you should obtain a physicians prescription for colon hydrotherapy and USE EXTREME CAUTION when electing colon hydrotherapy. Additionally, if you are currently taking medication you should check with your prescribing physician before electing colon hydrotherapy, to ensure that the medication will not be interfered with by the additional water intake.
